Fink Wagon - Pontiac Jack
Mean, screened and florescent green!
I wanted something a bit different for my C cab. While
trawling through the unbuilt kits in my cupboard, I came across a "Highway
Pioneers" 1904 Olds Delivery. It looked like it had potential, but it would
take a lot of cutting, gluing and sanding! And it's 1/32 scale, so donor parts
were going to be a problem. Oh well, I like a challenge!
After removing everything except the top and bottom halves
of the body, I made a firewall and chassis from Evergreen styrene. The
original seat and part of the floor were cut away, and a pair of highback
seats from an "El Cheapo" 1/38 Ferrari kit were fitted. I decided I wanted to
turn it into a screen side body, so I remove the rear door panels and
sides. I
made a new tailgate and hatch from a wooden tongue depressor, then filled the
remaining openings with flywire screening. I made a windscreen, steering
column and console for the interior. The shifter is made from a pin. And I
painted the seats Metalflake Purple.
Proving that AMT got their dimensions horribly wrong, the
engine and gearbox are straight out of the re-tooled Ala-Kart kit. Perfect
fit!! I made the intake tubes from aluminum tubing and used the smallest wire
I could find for plug leads. I scratchbuilt the distributor.
The front axle and wheels came from AMT's Wynns Charger
kit. The rear end is from an AMT Mustang, and the rear wheels and tires are
from a pair of diecast choppers.
I was amazed how many old AMT "1/25 scale" parts were actually much closer
to 1/32.
The grille shell is an old Pyro piece cut down. Moon tank
comes from AMT's 63 Vette. Headlights were driving lights
out of a pick
up kit, and the radius rods came out of the parts box. Taillights are AMT 34
Ford cowl lights, and the filler cap is from the Wynn's Charger.
I drowned the whole thing in Flouro Green with heaps of
clear coats.
